Protecting Your Children This Flu Season - Goldtex

Protecting Your Children This Flu Season

October is that month where everyone around is sniffling, has red eyes, or seems to be coming down with some kind of virus. These viruses spread like wild fires, especially with kids in school and daycare environments. This article explores some easy steps you can take to help protect your children this flu season. Most of the lessons deal with talking to your kids about how to behave around other kids during this month.

Keep those hands clean & away

Children should wash their hands regularly. Teach children to keep their hands away form their face, especially the eyes and mouth. Toys should also stay away from their mouth.

Let children know not to share food or drinks with other people during the flu season

Similar to the lesson above. Children should understand the basic concept behind the flu virus. I.E. that is spreads from one person to the other, especially during October and May. Therefore, it is important for them to be extra careful in their interactions with their friends during these months.

Get a full nights rest

Sleep deprivation and stress are other conditions that can make you more vulnerable to getting the flu.

Manage stress

Parents can help children manage stress by completing homework early in the week. Another way is by making a safe and happy home environment which children can depend on.

Eat healthy

No processed or fast foods which lack nutrients your body needs to fight viruses. Drink a lot of liquids. "Diets that are plentiful in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, low-fat dairy, healthy fats, and more can provide a wide array of nutrients and antioxidants that can help boost the immune system."

Stay active

Moderate and regular exercise can boost the immune system. Kids should get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day

Lastly, If your child seems to be coming down with something, it is always a best practice to keep them home for a few days for the consideration of the other children at school or daycare. Good luck to you during this flu season !
